Myofascial Release

Fascia system of the body

Fascia surrounds and envelopes all of the body’s structures. It is connective tissue that is very much continuous throughout the body, never-ending.

Myofascial tissue becomes restricted and forms different holding patterns in the body from trauma, repetitive movements, illnesses, sustained postures, neurological conditions and digestive problems. These restrictions can cause pain, joint immobility, nerve compression, friction syndromes, digestive disorders, muscle tension, headaches and many more problems.

Releasing these patterns will help the body create more space within the area. This helps reduce pain and dysfunction by allowing the structures to move and operate better. Treatments help restore the nervous systems input to the area, movements become more fluid and the pain decreases. Myofascial release has been scientifically proven to be a effective and helpful treatment for almost all osteopathic dysfunction and can provide longterm positive results.

What to expect:

Myofascial release is applied with force in a third dimensional plane and requires the therapist to load and hold positions. You can expect the therapist is be working slowly in one area. Techniques are also applied with different hand placements and pressures depending on the fascial plane that is going to be released. Once in the proper position, the therapist waits for the tissue to release. This can take some time but is very relaxing. Each session can be different as the body adapts to the structural changes from the previous session. During the treatment one might feel a stretching and a mild burning sensation as the technique is applied. A client could also feel a unwinding, loosening and twisting motion as the tissue releases. Expect to be sore for a few days after the treatment, however the mobility and reduction of pain is well worth the discomfort.

Myofascial therapy can help:

  • Chronic pain and joint stiffness
  • Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
  • ITB Friction Syndrome
  • Fibromyalgia
  • SI joint pain
  • Frozen shoulder
  • Neck pain
  • Compression syndromes
  • Migraines/ Headaches
  • Muscles spasms
  • Constipation
  • Subluxed ribs
  • Postural problems

And many other orthopaedic and systemic dysfunctions.
